光合成（こうごうせい）Photosynthesis

　太陽たいようのはたらきはたくさんあります。

　太陽たいようは、地球ちきゅうに光ひかりと熱ねつを与あたえてくれます。

　そのおかげで、地球ちきゅうは明あかるさと温あたたかさを保たもっています。

　太陽たいようの光ひかりのすばらしいはたらきに、光合成こうごうせいがあります。

　光合成こうごうせいというのは、光ひかりのエネルギーを使つかって緑色みどりいろの生いきものが、栄養えいようを作つくり出だすしくみです。

　緑色みどりいろの生いきものとは、陸りくに住すむ葉はっぱのある木きや花はな、苔こけ、海うみに住すむ海藻かいそうや緑色みどりいろのバクテリア、珊瑚さんごなどです。

　これらの緑色みどりいろの生いきものは、葉緑体ようりょくたいというものをもっています。

　これらの生いきものは、葉緑体ようりょくたいの上うえで、水みずと空気中くうきちゅうにある二酸化にさんか炭素たんそに光ひかりがあたると、酸素さんそと養分ようぶんを作つくり出だすことができます。

　地球ちきゅう上じょうのほとんどすべての生いきものは、この養分ようぶんを使つかって生いきています。

　植物などの緑色みどりいろの生いきものは、自分で作った養分ようぶんを使つかって生いきています。

　うさぎや牛うしなどの動物どうぶつは、植物しょくぶつを食たべて生いきています。

　ライオンや虎とら、鷹たかなどの肉食にくしょくの動物どうぶつは、植物しょくぶつを食たべる動物どうぶつを食たべて生いきています。

　人間にんげんも、野菜やさいなどの植物しょくぶつや他ほかの動物どうぶつなどを食たべて生いきています。

Photosynthesis

　The sun does many things.

　The sun provides light and heat to the earth.

　This keeps the earth bright and warm.

　One of the wonderful functions of sunlight is photosynthesis.

　Photosynthesis is the process by which green organisms use the energy of light to produce nutrients.

　Green organisms include leafy trees, flowers, and mosses that live on land, and seaweed, green bacteria and corals that live in the sea.

　These green organisms have chloroplasts.

　On their chloroplasts, these creatures can produce oxygen and nutrients when light hits water and carbon dioxide in the air.

　Almost all living things on earth use these nutrients to survive.

　Plants and other green creatures live on the nutrients they produce.

　Animals such as rabbits and cows live off plants.

　Carnivorous animals such as lions, tigers, and hawks live off plant-eating animals.

　Humans also live by eating plants, such as vegetables, and other animals.
