summer solstice

Japan is a country with four distinct seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter.
There is a solar term that expresses the state of the season.
Today, June 21, 2022 (Reiwa 4) is the summer solstice of the 24th solar term.
The summer solstice is the day when the sun is the longest in the year.
The summer solstice changes every year and is often June 20th or 21st.
The length of time the sun is shining depends on the location in Japan.
Since Japan is a vertically long country, the sunrise and sunset times vary from place to place.
In Sapporo, Hokkaido, the sunrise is at 3:54 am and the sunset is at 7:18 pm.
In Tokyo, the sunrise is at 4:24 am and the sunset is at 7:00 pm.
In Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture, the sunrise is at 4:24 am and the sunset is at 7:11 pm.
In Osaka, the sunrise is at 4:44 am and the sunset is at 7:15 pm.
In Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture, the sunrise is at 5:36 pm and the sunset is at 7:25 pm.
Of course, when it’s raining, you can’t see the sunrise or sunset.
Even if the clouds are wide, you can see that the sun is coming out beyond the clouds by the brightness of the sky.
There is a time difference of about 1 hour and 40 minutes at sunrise between Sapporo City and Naha City.
Even in Japan, you can see that the sun is shining longer in the north.
In the countries near the Arctic in the world, the sun is shining longer.
In Scandinavian countries such as Norway, Sweden and Finland, the midnight sun lasts for several days, including the summer solstice.
The midnight sun means that the sky does not darken and the dim light continues for a long time after sunset. It may continue until sunrise.
