Atomic Bomb Dome

At 8:15 a.m. on August 6, 1945, an atomic bomb (nuclear weapon) was used and exploded 580 meters above the city of Hiroshima for the first time in human history.

Many people died from the strong blast, high heat, and radiation.

Many buildings were destroyed one after another.

The Atomic Bomb Dome, which I will introduce here, survived the atomic bomb and miraculously the center of the dome did not collapse.

The original A-bomb Dome was built in 1915 as the Hiroshima Prefectural Products Exhibition Hall, with three stories above ground and one below, and a 25-meter-high, five-story dome in the center.

Designed by a Czech architect, it was used for product and art exhibitions after it was built.

The remaining A-bomb Dome was registered as a cultural heritage in 1996 to remember the mistakes of mankind’s past and to appeal for a peaceful world without repeating the same mistakes.

Next to the A-Bomb Dome is the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. Various materials related to the war are on display to promote peace and convey the tragedy of the war.

On display are actual lunch boxes and tricycles that were destroyed by the atomic bomb.

In Peace Memorial Park next to the A-bomb Dome, there is a statue of the Children of the Atomic Bomb.
