桃（もも）peach

　桃ももは、春はるの３月後半さんがつこうはんから５ご月がつごろにかけて花はなが咲さきます。

　花はなが美うつくしい品種ひんしゅは、花はな桃ももと呼よばれます。

　種類しゅるいによって違ちがいはありますが、桜さくらよりも少し早く咲さき始めて、桜さくらよりも少すこし長ながい間あいだ咲さきます。

　桃ももの花はなには、一ひと重え咲さきと八や重え咲さきがあります。

　桃ももの一ひと重え咲さきというのは、花はなびらが5枚ごまいの咲さき方かたです。

　八や重え咲さきというのは、花はなびらの内側うちがわに、さらに多おおくの花はなびらが並ならんでいる咲さき方かたです。

　桃ももの花はなの色いろは、白しろ、ピンク、赤あかなどがあります。中なかには、１ひとつの木きの中なかに白しろ、赤あか、ピンクの3色さんしょくの色いろで咲さくものもあります。花はな桃ももにも実みはなりますが、小ちいさくて食たべることはできません。

　食たべることのできる大おおきな実みのなる桃ももは、実み桃ももと呼よばれます。実み桃ももの花はなは、ピンクで、梅うめや桜さくらに似にた花はなを咲さかせます。　

　桃ももの実みの主おもな産さん地ちは、山梨県やまなしけん、福島県ふくしまけん、長なが野の県けんで、この3県さんけんで全体ぜんたいのおよそ60パーセントを占しめています。

　桃ももの実みの収穫しゅうかく時じ期きは、大おおきく３みっつに分わけられていて、早はやいものは５月ごがつごろから店頭てんとうに並ならびます。

　最盛さいせい期きは、７月しちがつから８月はちがつの夏なつです。遅おそいものでは、９月くがつから10月じゅうがつに収穫しゅうかくされます。

　さらに、最近さいきんは、ハウス栽培さいばいもありますので、冬ふゆでも楽たのしむことができます。

Peach

　Peaches bloom in spring from late March through May.

　The varieties with beautiful flowers are called hana-momo (peach blossoms).

　They start blooming a little earlier than cherry blossoms and last a little longer than cherry blossoms, depending on the variety.

　There are two types of peach blossoms: single-petaled and double-petaled.

　Single-petaled peaches have five petals.

　The double-petaled variety has more petals lined up inside the petals.

　Peach blossoms can be white, pink, or red. Some trees have three colors of white, red, and pink blooms on a single tree. Flowering peaches also produce berries, but they are small and inedible.

　Peaches that bear large, edible fruits are called mi-momo. The flowers of mi-momo peaches are pink and resemble plum blossoms or cherry blossoms.　

　Peaches are mainly grown in Yamanashi, Fukushima, and Nagano prefectures, which together account for about 60% of the total peach production.

　Peaches are harvested in three main periods, with the earliest ones appearing on store shelves from around May.

　The peak season is summer, from July to August. The later ones are harvested from September to October.

　Recently, they are also grown in greenhouses, so they can be enjoyed even in winter.
