working children

One of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) is the goal of “quality education for all.”

In Japan, children can learn at school.

In Japan, textbooks are distributed free of charge to junior high school students.

Depending on the municipality, there are places where school lunches are free.

However, in some parts of the world, children cannot go to school.

What they do instead of going to school is working.

There is an organization called the United Nations in which many countries around the world participate.

Within the United Nations, there is an organization called the “International Labor Organization” that conducts research on working and improves the working environment.

According to a survey conducted by the International Labor Organization in 2021, 160 million children aged 5 to 17 are working without being able to go to school. 1 in 10 children aged 5 to 17 are working.

The reason why children work is simple.

This is because working children will increase the amount of money that goes into the house.

In some African countries, it is reported that many children are working on cacao plantations that grow cacao, one of the raw materials for chocolate.

Sometimes children work for cheap money to make chocolates for Valentine’s Day.

Behind the chocolates eaten on Valentine’s Day, there are many working children.
