成人の日（せいじんのひ）Coming-of-Age Day

　１月いちがつ９日ここのかは、国民こくみんの祝日しゅくじつの一ひとつである「成人せいじんの日ひ」です。

　成人せいじんの日ひは、もともと１月いちがつ15日じゅうごにちでした。しかし、1999年ねん（平成へいせい11年ねん）に改正かいせいされた法律ほうりつによって、2000年ねん（平成へいせい12年ねん）から1月いちがつの第2だいに月曜げつよう日びになりました。

　月曜げつよう日びに移うつされるようになったのは、土ど曜日ようび、日曜にちよう日びと合あわせて、3連さんれん休きゅうにすることで、旅りょ行こうなどに行いきやすいようにしたからです。このような制せい度どをハッピーマンデー制せい度どといいます。

　国民こくみんの祝日しゅくじつに関かんする法律ほうりつによりますと、「成人せいじんの日ひ」は次つぎのように説明せつめいされています。

「おとなになったことを自じ覚かくし、みずから生いiき抜ぬこうとする青年せいねんを祝いわいはげます。」

　成人せいじんの日ひには、成人せいじんになった人ひとを祝いわって、成人式せいじんしきを市町村しちょうそんが中心ちゅうしんになって祝いわいます。

　成人式せいじんしきに参さん加かする人ひとは、成人せいじんになったことを祝いわって、女性じょせいは振袖ふりそでを着きたり、男性だんせいは背せ広びろや紋付もんつき袴はかまを着きたりすることもあります。

　

　2023年ねん（令和れいわ5年ごねん）の成人式せいじんしきの対象たいしょうは、本来ほんらいは、2002年ねん（平成へいせい14年）4月しがつ2日ふつかから2003年ねん（平へい成せい15年ねん）4月しがつ1日ついたちまでに生うまれた人ひとでした。

　しかし、法律ほうりつが変かわって、2022年ねん（令和れいわ4年よねん）の4月しがつ1日ついたちから、成人せいじんになる年齢ねんれいがそれまでの20歳はたちから18歳じゅうはっさいに変かわりました。

　多おおくの市町村しちょうそんでは、成人式せいじんしきを「20歳はたちの集つどい」などの名な前まえに変かえて、参さん加か者しゃを20歳はたちだけに限かぎっています。

Coming-of-Age Day　

　January 9th is Coming-of-Age Day, one of the national holidays.

　Coming of Age Day was originally January 15th. However, due to the law revised in  1999 (Heisei 11), it became the second Monday of January from 2000 (Heisei 12).

　The reason it was moved to Monday was because Saturday and Sunday were combined to make it a three-day weekend, making it easier to travel. This system is called the Happy Monday system.

　According to the law on national holidays, “Coming-of-Age Day” is explained as follows.

“We celebrate young people who realize that they have become adults and try to survive on their own.”

　On Coming-of-Age Day, municipalities take the lead in celebrating coming-of-age ceremonies.

　Those who participate in the Coming-of-Age Ceremony celebrate their coming of age by wearing a furisode for women and a suit or hakama with a crested crested skirt for men.

　The 2023 coming-of-age ceremony was originally intended for people born between April 2, 2002 and April 1, 2003.

　However, the law has changed, and from April 1, 2022, the age at which one becomes an adult has changed from 20 to 18.

　Many municipalities change the name of the Coming-of-Age Ceremony to something like “20-year-old gathering” and limit participants to only 20-year-olds.
