赤ちゃん（あかちゃん）Baby

　赤あかちゃんは、生うまれたばかりの子こどものことをいいます。

　なぜ、赤あかちゃんというかというと、生うまれたばかりの子こどもは肌はだの色いろが赤あかいからです。

　なぜ赤あかちゃんの肌はだの色いろが赤あかいのかというと、人間にんげんの血ちの色いろが赤あかいのと、生うまれたばかりの赤あかちゃんの皮膚ひふがうすいからです。

　赤あかちゃんの皮膚ひふがうすいので、赤あかちゃんの体からだの中なかを動うごいている血管けっかんの中なかの血ちの色いろが透すけて見みえるからです。

　しかし、しばらくすると、だんだんと大人のように、皮膚ひふの厚あつみも増ましますので、赤あかくなくなっていきます。

　赤あかちゃんのてのひらに、指ゆびを近ちかづけるとどうなるか知しっていますか。

　赤あかちゃんは、その指ゆびをぎゅっとつかみます。これは、把は握反射あくはんしゃといって、赤あかちゃんの体からだに備そなわった能力のうりょくです。

　今こん度どは、指ゆびを、赤あかちゃんのほっぺたに近ちかづけてみましょう。

　すると、今こん度どは、指ゆびに吸すいつきます。

　これは、指ゆびをお母かあさんのおっぱいと思おもってお乳ちちを飲のもうとするからです。

　この能力のうりょくがあるので、赤あかちゃんは、母ぼ乳にゅうやミルクを飲のむことができます。誰だれにも教おしえられなくてもどの赤あかちゃんでも同おなじような動うごきをします。

　A baby is a newborn child.

　In Japanese, we say akachan/red.

　The reason we say akachan/red is because newborn babies have red skin.

　The reason why babies’ skin is red is because human blood is red and newborn babies’ skin is thin.

　Because the baby’s skin is thin, the color of the blood in the blood vessels that move inside the baby’s body can be seen through.

　However, after a while, the skin will gradually thicken like an adult, so the redness will disappear.

　Do you know what happens when you put your finger close to a baby’s palm?

　The baby grabs the finger tightly. This is a grasping reflex, an ability that babies have.

　Now, bring your finger closer to the baby’s cheek.

　Then the baby will try to suck your finger.

　This is because they think of your fingers as mother’s nipples and try to suck milk.

　With this ability, babies can drink breast milk or milk.
